JUNE TOURNAMENT RESULTS: Sunday Couples - June 1 Playing a Better Ball gross and net, the team of Ted & Roz Harrison fired an 80 to win the top gross honors in the monthly Sunday Couples. Second gross went to Dave & Elaine Brown with an 81. Dick & Trudy Spake fired a net 63 to win the net competition, while Bernie & Bobbie Garrett finished second with a 65. Third place ended in a tie, as Ron & Kim Chrisman and Dick & Cheryl Olmstead each posted a 66. The July Sunday Couples will be a Partners Combined Stableford. Entry fee is $10 per couple and sign-ups will take place on the day of the event. You may find your own playing partners or just show up and the Golf Shop staff will assist you in finding a partner. "Red" Evers Scramble - June 7 The annual "Red" Evers Scramble always brings out the toughest competition and this year was no exception, as 64 players battled it out for the top spot. The team of Bill Galloway, Jr., Rod Peterson, Mike Carpenter & Trish Monypeny, fired a gross 60 to take the top spot. However, in the net competition, there was a log jam at the top. The team of Lynn McClung, Jean Reason, Ron Sayre & Peggy Kosik fired a 57 to take the top spot, while two teams tied for second with matching 59's. Those were the teams of Chuck Scocchio, John Bickford, Ron Thomas & Cheryl Campbell and Mark Kurtik, Don Anton, Bill Castle & Laura Flynn. In the Closest to the Pin competition, Ken Kosik and Kim Gonzaes were were winners on Hole #6, while Sal Frias and Nancy Hall were closest on Hole #11. The Horserace following play was a real "barnburner", as the team of Dennis Westby, Jean Reason, Lydia Kurtik & Gordon Betcher survived an exciting chip-off to take the top spot. Thanks to all the players who participated this year and to all of the check-in people who helped make this event a huge success. Father/Child Tournament - June 14 The greens at Crystalaire were certainly more forgiving than those at Torrey Pines during the recent U.S. Open Championship. The competition, however, was no less competitive, as 16 teams battled it out in four different divisions. In the Father/Son division, Roger & Mike Smith combined for a 613 to take the top gross honors for the second straight year, while Dick & Jay Spake won their first net title with a 132. Second place went to Vic & Brett Kurten with a 141 total in the combined net format. In the Father/Son-in-Law division, Rich Streckfuss & Eric Smith won the gross with a 170 total, while Mike Carpenter & Rob Autry captured the net with a 149. In the Grandfather/Grandson category, Vic & Eric Kurten won the gross, while Bill Galloway Sr. & Steve Galloway captured the net. Ron Sayre & Katie Mulvihill teamed up to win the Grandfather/Granddaughter division. Tiger Woods may have won the most exciting U.S. Open in recent history, but the Crystalaire families were all winners on a great Father's Day weekend. Men's Senior Championship - June 21-22 With rounds of 74-72 for a 146 total, Jim Camaione won his first gross division title in the 2008 Crystalaire Senior Championship. On the net side, Bob Adams netted rounds of 68-67 for a two-day total of 135 to win his first crown. In the 50-59 age group, Larry Hackney was the gross winner with a 155, while Ron Chrisman captured the net title with a two-day total of 142. Moving on to the 60-69 age division, Jack Stuckey was the gross champion with a 156 total, while Jim Stead took the net title with a 140. Ted Harrison was the gross victor in the 70-79 division with a 160 score, while Dave Brown captured the net title with a 145. In the Super Seniors division (over 80), Hal Hogan went un-opposed with a score of 159 for the two days. Special thanks to the 53 participants who braved 100+ temperatures to make this a successful event. |
