The Big Pines Region of the Angeles National Forest is rich in skiing heritage. More than 80 years ago, winter
enthusiasts made their way up Highway 2 from to a ski resort near Los Angeles to sled, slide, and ski at Big Pines
Park. Mountain High is proud to recognize the forefathers who laid the groundwork for what is now Southern
California's most popular ski resort.
STAY IN WRIGHTWOOD
Wrightwood is possibly the best kept secret for mountain vacationing. An easy drive from Los Angeles, Orange County and
San Diego counties with no winding 'mountain' roads makes getting here a pleasure. Of course, many people enjoy coming
in the 'back' way for a leisurely drive where the curves add to the fun. Plan to stay a few days to absorb the beauty
and pristine blue sky. Whether you are looking for a pampered Bed & Breakfast experience, a simple 'home base' for your
adventures or anything in between, you will be sure to find the perfect accommodations.

MEDITATE/SPIRITUAL-- St. Andrews Abbey 20 minutes away
The Monastic Community at Valyermo was founded in China in 1929 by the Abbey of Sint Andries Zevenkerken in Brugge,
Belgium. The monks prayed, taught, and worked in China until they were expelled by the communists in 1952. In 1955 the
community relocated at Valyermo in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains. Since that time the monks have sought to
live out St. Benedict's precept to "prefer nothing to the love of Christ" in the High Desert of Southern
California. www.Valyermo.com
